MRT Routes in Malaysia: Kajang Line vs Putrajaya Line

The MRT Kajang Line and the MRT Putrajaya Line are two different mass rapid transit lines in Malaysia that are part of the Klang Valley MRT network.

The MRT Kajang Line, also known as the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, is the first MRT line in the Klang Valley MRT network. It runs from Sungai Buloh in the northwest of Kuala Lumpur to Kajang in the southeast, passing through the city center. The line is approximately 51 km long and has 31 stations.

The MRT Putrajaya Line, also known as the SSP Line, is the second MRT line in the Klang Valley MRT network. It runs from Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya, passing through densely populated areas such as Damansara, Bangsar, and Kuchai Lama. The line is approximately 52.2 km long and has 37 stations.

Both MRT lines offer fast and convenient transportation options for commuters in the Klang Valley.

However, the MRT Putrajaya Line has more stations and covers more areas compared to the MRT Kajang Line. It also offers connectivity to various transportation hubs such as the KL Sentral station, which makes it easier for commuters to transfer to other modes of transportation.

Ultimately, the choice between the two lines depends on your destination and the route that is most convenient for you.

LRT Routes In Malaysia: Kelana Jaya Line vs Sri Petaling Line vs Ampang Line

The LRT (Light Rail Transit) system in Malaysia comprises three different lines, the Kelana Jaya Line, Sri Petaling Line, and Ampang Line.

Below are some differences and similarities between these three lines.

LRT Routes

Kelana Jaya Line is one of the busiest LRT lines in Malaysia and operates from Putra Heights to Gombak. It spans a distance of 46.4km and has a total of 37 stations. The Kelana Jaya Line serves major areas in Kuala Lumpur such as Petaling Jaya, Bangsar, and KL Sentral.

Sri Petaling Line operates from Sentul Timur to Putra Heights and spans a distance of 37.6km. It has a total of 18 stations and serves areas such as Puchong, Sri Petaling, and Bukit Jalil.

Ampang Line operates from Ampang to Sentul Timur and spans a distance of 27.4km. It has a total of 25 stations and serves areas such as Cheras, Pandan Indah, and Wangsa Maju.

Train Frequency

The Kelana Jaya Line and Sri Petaling Line operate at a frequency of approximately 3-5 minutes during peak hours, while the Ampang Line operates at a frequency of approximately 5-7 minutes.

Interchange Stations

All three lines have interchange stations where passengers can switch between different LRT lines or other public transportation systems. For example, the Pasar Seni station serves as an interchange between the Kelana Jaya Line and the Ampang Line.

Ticketing System

The same ticketing system is used across all three lines, which includes the MyRapid card and cash payment. The MyRapid card offers discounted fares and faster boarding times.

While all three LRT lines serve different areas of Kuala Lumpur and its suburbs, they are connected through interchange stations and offer a similar ticketing system.

The Kelana Jaya Line is the longest and busiest of the three, while the Sri Petaling Line and Ampang Line serve as important transportation links for their respective areas.

KTM Intercity Routes Map, Schedules & Services

The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) operates a group of intercity train services in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand under the brand name Intercity.

Most of these services depart from Kuala Lumpur Sentral station and run along the West Coast Line. However, a few services operate exclusively along the East Coast Line, from Tumpat to Gemas and onwards to Singapore.

The KTM Intercity has been the mainstay of train services in Malaysia for a long time. Its fleet of diesel-hauled intercity trains has been a dependable mode of transportation for passengers.

While most of the Northern destinations on the West Coast Line are now served by the ETS service, the Intercity route map still covers both the East and West Coast Main Line.

Passengers wishing to travel by train to the Southern and Eastern States of Malaysia can do so with the KTM Intercity as it is currently the only train service that transports passengers from Tumpat to Johor Bahru Sentral.

The Intercity route map also includes a shuttle train service that enables passengers to travel across the border to Singapore.

ETS Intercity Routes Map, Schedules & Services

The ETS, or Electric Train Service, is an efficient intercity rail service that offers a fast and convenient mode of travel for passengers looking to journey to the Northern or Southern states of Malaysia. Currently, there are two available routes for commuters to choose from: the KL Sentral – Ipoh Line, and the Gemas – KL Sentral – Ipoh – Butterworth – Padang Besar Line. As the fastest inter-state train service in Malaysia, the ETS cuts down significantly on travel time compared to previous coach services.

The ETS route map covers popular destinations such as KL Sentral, Ipoh, Butterworth, and Padang Besar, which are well-known tourist spots with various attractions for travelers nationwide. With three different concession classes ranging from Platinum to Silver, passengers can enjoy a comfortable ride with the option of the shortest travel time and least amount of stops offered by Platinum, or stops at every station along the tracks with Silver.

The ETS service has become the most popular train route in Malaysia due to its connectivity to significant locations, and ongoing expansion projects are expected to provide even greater coverage for passengers.

With the ETS, travellers can experience a speedy and comfortable journey to some of the most popular destinations in Malaysia.

KTM Komuter, KTM Intercity, and ETS are all different types of train services provided by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), the main railway operator in Malaysia.

The KTM Komuter is a commuter train service that connects the suburbs and outlying areas of major cities to the city center. It operates on a frequency of approximately 15 to 30 minutes during peak hours and provides an affordable means of transportation for daily commuters. The KTM Komuter runs on a diesel engine and operates on a single track.

The KTM Intercity is a long-distance train service that connects major cities and towns across Malaysia. It is a more traditional train service, operating on a diesel engine and offering sleeper and non-sleeper coaches. The KTM Intercity provides a slower but more economical means of travel compared to the ETS.

The ETS (Electric Train Service) is a high-speed intercity train service that runs on electrified double tracks between major cities, such as Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, and Penang. It is known for its modern facilities, fast speed, and comfortable seats. The ETS also offers a business class coach and a standard coach, with a variety of seating options to cater to different budgets.

Overall, the choice between these train services depends on the destination, budget, and travel preferences of the passenger.

The ETS is ideal for those who want to travel between major cities quickly and comfortably, while the KTM Komuter and KTM Intercity are better suited for those who want to commute within the city or travel to smaller towns and cities at a more affordable price.
