If you’re looking for an Italian restaurant in Johor Bahru, Rosmarino is definitely worth checking out. The seafood is fresh and the taste is delicious. The portions are just right, and you can try many different dishes even if you’re in a group. The ingredients are generous and well cooked, and the staff are friendly and provide great service. The environment is comfortable too. The only downside is that the cutlery on the table is not well organized, so hopefully they can improve on that.

When we visited without a reservation, we were offered counter seats since they were fully booked for the night. The bloody Mary oysters were fantastic, so be sure to try them out. However, the pasta was slightly overcooked and tasted normal.

If you stumble upon Rosmarino by accident, you’ll be in for a treat. The food is amazing, and the seafood is fresh even until the last order. The portions are generous, and the creme brulé is a stunningly smooth custard with a thin caramel crust. The eggplant parmigiana is fantastic, and the gnocchi has the perfect texture. The bruschetta is well-flavored and balanced, but the olive oil on the table has been sitting for some time and is no longer fragrant.

For a value-for-money meal, try the RM18+ lunch set that comes with 1 main (with many choices of pasta, pizzas, or mains from a special list), 1 soup of the day, and 1 glass of iced lemon tea. The place can get quite crowded, so make sure to arrive early. The service is super friendly, and the interior is nicely decorated with movie posters. The lighting is also quite dark, which makes it conducive for conversation.

If you’re not sure what to order, the oysters, prawn, and mushroom starter comes highly recommended. The pumpkin soup is a big portion, but it would be nice if it was served with a slice or two of toasted baguette. The iced lemon tea is delicious, and they don’t put too much syrup in it, but you can add some if you have a sweet tooth.

Looking for a delicious and affordable curry fish head in Johor Bahru? Look no further than Kam Long Ah Zai! This restaurant is well-known for its awesome curry fish head, which is available in three different portion sizes and can be made with either fish head or fish tail. One of the best things about Kam Long Ah Zai is that the fish is always fresh and there are plenty of vegetables in the curry, making for a healthy and satisfying meal.

However, be sure to plan your trip accordingly, as the restaurant is only open from 8 am to 4 pm or until they run out of stock. Additionally, there can be long queues during peak hours, so it’s best to arrive early to avoid waiting for a table. If you do find yourself waiting, you can visit the air-conditioned stall next door to order some fresh juice or light bites to enjoy while you wait.

While the curry is not overly spicy, it still has a great flavor that is sure to please even those who don’t typically enjoy curry fish. If you’re not a fan of fish heads, you can opt for the fish tail instead, which has more meat. Another popular option is the tau kee, which complements the curry very well.

IT Roo Cafe

IT Roo Café in Johor Bahru is the place to be for the best chicken chop in town. Located in Jalan Dhoby, the restaurant may not be spacious but the service is excellent and the food is served promptly. The chicken chop is so delicious and tasty that it needs no further description. It comes in good portions and is reasonably priced, making it worth a try. Also, don’t miss out on their must-try Root Beer Float.

One of the recommended dishes is the IT Roo fried rice, which comes in original or spicy flavors. The waiter recommended the spicy flavor, and it was just the right amount of spice. Even though the chicken chop is the star of the menu, the mushroom sauce is worth a try as well. The Grilled or Fried chicken chop options are available, and the food is served quickly.

If you want to try the popular chicken chop, it’s best to come early. On a Wednesday at 11:30 am, the air-conditioned side of the shop was almost packed. For breakfast or brunch, order the signature chicken chop with 2 eggs, IT Roo fried rice, and hot tea. The fried rice has a nice wok hey aroma, and the egg is perfectly fried. The chicken chop is tender and not too oily. It comes with five pieces of potatoes on the side and some coleslaw. We spent a total of $38, and it was well worth it.

Overall, IT Roo Café is a nice place to have breakfast or brunch. The chicken chop is the must-try dish, but the IT Roo fried rice and mushroom sauce are also worth a try. The food is served promptly, and the service is excellent. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are good. Don’t miss out on the Root Beer Float, and it’s a recommendation to visit.

Looking for a Korean restaurant that can satisfy the cravings of everyone in your family? Look no further than Shik Gaek Korean Family Restaurant! Owned and run by Koreans for around a decade, this restaurant has won the hearts of young and old alike.

You will find their staff from the Philippines, providing great service that will make you feel at home. The restaurant offers a wide range of dishes, and we particularly recommend the barbecue pork set and their famous pancake. At around RM40-50 per person, the price is reasonable for a Korean barbecue dinner. We love the variety of side dishes, especially the kimchi, cucumber, anchovies, and green vegetables, which are so good we always end up asking for refills.

Their pancake is also a must-try dish, crispy and tasty. Moreover, the staff are all friendly, polite and helpful, making it a comfortable and welcoming experience for all.

If you’re looking for something specific, we recommend the BBQ pork belly, marinated pork ribs, and seafood pancake. The food quality is beyond our expectations, and the seafood pancake is particularly noteworthy, with a crispy exterior and a non-mushy interior. The spicy tofu soup is standard but tastes better after adding kimchi. The BBQ pork is a must-try, being tender and flavorful.

The prices are super reasonable, and the authentic Korean food is fresh and delicious. Set meals offer super value for money. The Seafood pancake is the best we’ve had so far in Johor Bahru. The bosses and service staff are nice and prompt too.

In short, Shik Gaek Korean Family Restaurant is a gem in Johor Bahru, with a high value that will make you want to come back again and again.

If you’re looking for authentic Japanese food in Johor Bahru, Warakuya Japanese Restaurant is the place to be. Despite the restaurant’s slightly oldish look and disappointing toilets, the quality of the food is out of this world. From thick-cut sashimi slices to hot salmon head soup, everything is super fresh and reasonably priced.

With an extensive menu selection across three menus, there’s something for everyone here. Although you might have to wait for a table during peak hours, the wait is worth it. The friendly staff provides friendly service, and the food is well worth the wait.

Some of the recommended dishes include fresh sashimi and salmon head soup. If you’re in the mood for something different, Warakuya also serves a huge variety of other dishes and selections.

While you might need to wait for your food, it’s served quickly with great service. The restaurant is conveniently located about 10 minutes’ drive from the custom, making it easily accessible.

Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock

If you’re looking for some delicious steam fish, Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock in Johor Bahru is a great spot. They have a variety of fish to choose from and will steam it to perfection for you, topped with their signature sauce. One of the recommended dishes is the bean curd with black sauce which is also quite delicious.

Their bak kut teh is one of the better ones in town, with a soup that isn’t too overpowering and ribs that are tender and tasty. The vegetables are also well-cooked and tasty. You’ll definitely want to try the Fried Garlic on their fish, which is fresh and really brings out the flavor.

The portions are generous and both the Bah Ku Teh and Steamed Fish are must-try dishes. The only downside is that the restaurant can be quite hot and humid, but the food is worth it.

If you’re not used to the local way of ordering food, it can be a bit intimidating as there’s no queuing system, but don’t let that discourage you. The service is good and the owner even goes out of his way to shelter customers in the rain.

The bak kut teh soup is absolutely beautiful, with herbs that are on the milder side and a gorgeous sweet aftertaste. The mix of meat options is great, including lean meat and spare parts, which complement the small-cut pork ribs really well. Don’t miss the tau kee soaked in the soup, which is so good you may end up ordering a second serving.

The minced meat dressing on the veggies is awesome and a great companion to the crispiness and slightly bitter veggies. Kids will love the tofu and minced meat, but the adults might be too focused on other dishes. Parking can be a bit muddy in front of the restaurant, especially if it has rained, and the toilet is a squatting kind, but it’s relatively clean and won’t keep you from coming back.

Overall, Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock is a great place to enjoy some delicious food in Johor Bahru. Don’t miss out on the steamed fish and be sure to give their bak kut teh a try.

Restoran Sulam

Restoran Sulam is a great place to try out some delicious food, though some customers had mixed experiences. One of the recommended dishes is the sizzling tofu, which is the best according to one customer. Another dish that stands out is the prawn curry, which is simply amazing, with fresh seafood that tastes great.

While the asam pedas was slightly watery, it was still tasty. On the other hand, the butter chicken was a disappointment for some customers, as it was just normal butter on top of fried chicken. However, the otak-otak is a must-try, as it is very fresh and very tasty, and the sotong goreng kunyit was also unexpectedly good.

If you are a fan of fish head curry, Restoran Sulam is the place to be. The fish is very fresh and the curry is amazing. One customer even stated that they found it to be the best otak they had ever eaten in their life, describing it as “full meaty”. However, be prepared to pay slightly more depending on the meals you choose.

It is advisable to call ahead of time to book a table, as the restaurant can get crowded. Although the restaurant may be slightly pricey, the food is really good and the service is fast, making it a great place to visit if you are in Johor Bahru.

WW Laksa House
Image via WW Laksa House

If you’re a fan of laksa, you definitely need to visit WW Laksa House in Johor Bahru. The laksa broth is rich, thick, and absolutely delicious, and the standard of the laksa remains as good as ever. Although the default laksa no longer includes cockles, you can add them for an additional RM 4 per bowl. The prices are still very reasonable, with a small bowl costing RM 8 and a large one costing RM 9.

Not only is the laksa fantastic, but the curry laksa is said to be the best in town. It’s definitely worth trying, and if you’re feeling adventurous, give the otak-otak a go. They also sell fruit rojak, which is pretty good too.

The staff is friendly, and the service is fast. However, during lunch hours, there might be a bit of a wait, as it can get quite busy. It’s best to order directly at the counter before being seated, to avoid any delays.

The restaurant is closed on Wednesdays, but it’s open from 8:20 am to 3 pm on other days. It’s definitely worth a casual visit as the food is good, and the price is still acceptable. So, if you’re in the area and looking for some delicious laksa, be sure to stop by WW Laksa House.

11. Johor Bahru Food – Restoran Ya Wang

Restoran Ya Wang
Image via Restoran Ya Wang

Restoran Ya Wang is an old and authentic coffee shop that offers tasty food and excellent service. The signature dish is the herbal duck, which is soft, fragrant, and full of herbal taste. The gravy complements the duck well, and the dry black noodle is a great match for it. The hot plate tofu is also worth trying as it is soft and unique in flavor.

Despite the coffee shop’s worn-out appearance, the food is of high quality, and the service is commendable. The prices are affordable too, with a meal for five people costing only RM140. However, the restaurant can be quite busy, and there may be a queue outside with the pigeons.

One of the recommended dishes is the roasted duck marinated with Angelica herb. It has a mild taste of herbs, and the meat is succulent and served warm. It is still the same great taste as it was three years ago.

In summary, Restoran Ya Wang is a must-try for anyone looking for authentic local food. The coffee shop’s layout is typical, and the signboard is a bit run down, but don’t let that put you off. You’ll be treated to great food and friendly service at an affordable price.

12. Johor Bahru Food – Restoran Woon Kiang

Restoran Woon Kiang
Image via Restoran Woon Kiang

If you’re looking for an authentic taste of childhood, Restoran Woon Kiang might be a good option for you. The kuay teow broth has a nice herb flavour and goes well with the braised duck, meat, salted vegetables and spare parts. However, it can get crowded and busy after 7.30 pm, so it’s better to arrive early to avoid the long queues.

Some customers think that this place is overrated, but it’s still worth a try. You might have to wait for your food for quite a long time, as some customers have reported waiting for more than an hour. But if you’re patient, you might enjoy the pork stomach, which is good, and the duck, which is not bad. The other dishes are standard, and you might not have that “wow this is nice” feeling.

The environment is not air-conditioned, and the seating is outside the shop, on the road. Parking can be quite hard to find, and you might need to park in a nearby housing area. But if you manage to find a spot, the tau kee is a must-try here. It’s not super tasty, but it’s unique.

However, keep in mind that the expectation should be put lower. According to some local friends, this shop is no longer as good as before, as it has become more commercialized. Therefore, it might not be as special as you expect it to be. But still, if you want to try out some pig organs and duck meats braised flavored dishes, it’s worth checking out.

One customer had a great experience with the bbq grilled chicken carbonara, which was amazing and delicious, and the drinks were also good. The services provided by the staff were top-notch, making for a pleasant dining experience.

However, during dinner time, food may take longer to be served due to the crowd. The restaurant offers Halal Chinese style cooking, making it a great option for those looking for halal cuisine.

One of the recommended dishes is the curry prawn, which is a personal favorite for many patrons. The sauce is delicious, especially when eaten with mantou bread. The staff is also friendly and accommodating, making the dining experience even better.

1. Connoisseur Food Generation

Connoisseur Food Generation

Connoisseur Food Generation in Johor Bahru offers a great ambiance, particularly in its outdoor section. You can enjoy the cool and breezy atmosphere thanks to the huge fan, but the live band only plays on certain weekdays. Although the idea and concept are there, the food needs improvement as most of it is cooked by younger, inexperienced staff. Nevertheless, the prices are reasonable, except for the alcoholic drinks which are pricey.

Connoisseur Food Generation 1

The restaurant provides a wide variety of local and international food, making it a chill place for dinner. You’ll find plenty of choices to cover all preferences. It’s definitely a recommended place to find food if you’re around the area.

However, if you’re looking for a place to chill and have a drink with the live band, it should be a good spot. But, if you’re looking for food, there are definitely better places elsewhere. The restaurant has many food choices, and the pricing is reasonable. The space is also large and perfect for family or friend gatherings.

You should try the cockles from the Vietnam stall, sugarcane from the drink stall, and the apple strudel from Fruity Bakery. The food is pretty good and offers a lot of choices, but the drinks are so expensive. It’s definitely the most expensive drink you’ll ever have in a food court. The ambiance is really nice, which helps make your food more appetizing.

2. 63 Food Court Restaurant

63 Food Court Restaurant

If you’re a fan of fried carrot cake, you must try 63 Food Court Restaurant’s version. They offer two types to choose from, sweet or salty, and I highly recommend the salty one. Unlike the usual ones that use dark sauce, they have their own recipe that sets them apart from the rest.

63 Food Court Restaurant 1

While the oyster omelet was just okay, the Loh Mee was a little off-putting. It was so thick, and it looked more like starch than soup. Unfortunately, the taste didn’t make up for the strange texture.

63 Food Court Restaurant 2

On the other hand, there are plenty of food options to choose from at moderate prices. The cooked food center has a convenient location with easy parking, making it an ideal spot for a quick meal.

63 Food Court Restaurant 4

The fried kway teow is a must-try, although it’s just okay. The BKT, on the other hand, is delicious, but they charge an extra RM2 for a soup refill with a small bowl. Be sure to keep that in mind.
